Cambridge 19 Speaking Test 2 Academic & General Training
PART 1 – Speaking Questions
The examiner asks you about yourself, your home, work or studies, and other familiar topics.
Speaking Part 1 Topic: Travelling by Plane
Question 1: Have you travelled a lot by plane? [To where?/Why not?]
Yes, I have traveled by plane quite a few times. I have been to different countries like Japan, Australia, and France. I usually travel by plane for vacations or to visit family and friends.
Question 2: Why do you think some people enjoy travelling by plane?
I think some people enjoy travelling by plane because it is fast and convenient. It allows them to reach faraway places quickly. Also, some people like the experience of flying and looking out of the window at the clouds and the view from above.
Question 3: Would you like to live near an airport? [Why/Why not?]
No, I would not like to live near an airport. It would be too noisy with the sound of planes taking off and landing all the time. Also, the area around airports can be very busy and crowded, which might make it less peaceful to live there.
Question 4: In the future, do you think that you will travel by plane more often? [Why/Why not?]
Yes, I think I will travel by plane more often in the future. I enjoy exploring new places, and flying is the easiest way to reach many destinations. Plus, as my work might require travel, I could end up flying more frequently.
PART 2 – Speaking Cue Card Questions
Describe a person from your country who has won a prize, award or medal.
You should say:
- who this person is
- which prize, award or medal they received
- what they did to win this
- and explain whether you think it was right that this person received this prize, award or medal.
And you will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can make some notes to help you if you wish.
Cue Card Model Answer Band 7:
One person from Bangladesh who has won a prestigious award is Dr. Muhammad Yunus. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. Dr. Yunus is known for his work in microfinance and for founding the Grameen Bank.
Dr. Yunus started the Grameen Bank to provide small loans to poor people in Bangladesh, especially women, who did not have access to traditional banking services. These loans helped them start small businesses, improve their living conditions, and lift themselves out of poverty. His innovative approach to microcredit has helped millions of people not only in Bangladesh but around the world.
I think it was absolutely right that Dr. Yunus received the Nobel Peace Prize. His work has had a profound impact on reducing poverty and empowering women. The concept of microfinance has been a game-changer for many disadvantaged communities. Dr. Yunus’s dedication and innovative thinking have created opportunities for people who were previously overlooked by traditional financial institutions. The award recognized his significant contributions to social and economic development, which have inspired many others to follow his example.
PART 3 – Speaking Questions & Discussion Topics with Answers
1. Rewards for Children at School – Speaking Questions
Question 1: What types of school prizes do children in your country receive?
In my country, children receive different types of prizes in school. These can include certificates for academic achievements like top grades in subjects, medals for sports competitions, trophies for overall excellence, and sometimes even scholarships for higher education.
Question 2: What do you think are the advantages of rewarding schoolchildren for good work?
Rewarding schoolchildren for their good work has several advantages. Firstly, it motivates them to work harder and strive for excellence. Secondly, it boosts their confidence and self-esteem, showing them that their efforts are recognized and valued. Lastly, it encourages a positive competitive spirit among students, promoting a healthy learning environment.
Question 3: Do you agree that it’s more important for children to receive rewards from their parents than from teachers?
I believe that both parental and teacher recognition are important for children. Parents provide emotional support and encouragement at home, which can deeply motivate children. On the other hand, teachers’ rewards at school acknowledge academic and behavioral achievements, reinforcing positive behaviors and academic success. Both forms of recognition play a crucial role in a child’s development and motivation.
2. Rewards for Sportspeople – Speaking Questions
Question 1: Do you think that some sportspeople (e.g., top footballers) are paid too much money?
Yes, I think some top sportspeople, like footballers, are paid a lot of money. They earn huge amounts because they are very famous and bring in a lot of money for their teams and sponsors. However, some people believe it’s too much compared to other jobs that are also important.
Question 2: Should everyone on a team get the same prize money when they win?
It depends. In some sports, like team games, everyone works together to win, so many people think everyone should get the same prize money. Others think the best players should get more because they might have played a bigger role in winning.
Question 3: Do you agree with the view that, in sport, taking part is more important than winning?
Yes, I agree with that view. Participating in sports can teach us important skills like teamwork and perseverance, which are valuable in life. Winning is great, but enjoying the game and learning from it is what matters most in the long run.
