The IELTS exam is divided into four parts:
- Listening: The listening test lasts for 30 minutes, and it consists of four sections, each with 10 questions. The test assesses the candidate’s ability to understand spoken English in a range of different contexts.
- Reading: The reading test lasts for 60 minutes and consists of three sections, with a total of 40 questions. The texts used in the test are taken from newspapers, books, and magazines, and are designed to test the candidate’s ability to understand written English.
- Writing: The writing test lasts for 60 minutes and consists of two tasks. Task 1 requires candidates to describe and explain visual information, while Task 2 requires candidates to write an essay in response to a given topic.
- Speaking: The speaking test lasts for 11-14 minutes and consists of three parts. Part 1 involves the examiner asking the candidate general questions about themselves, Part 2 requires the candidate to speak for 2 minutes on a given topic, and Part 3 involves a discussion between the candidate and the examiner on the same topic as Part 2.
